Things to do around Thurlestone and the surrounding area

Discover the picturesque coastal area that surrounds The Seaview Beach Apartment.  Promising golden sands, crystal-clear waters, and a variety of activities for the whole family. Thurlestone offers a prime position to explore the very best attractions and landmarks Devon has to offer.  Having spent many happy holidays in the area, here are some ideas of how to experience all that this area has to offer.

Thurlestone Beach

Named after the iconic coastal rock formation and known for its golden sandy beaches, dramatic cliffs and serene countryside. Thurlestone is an ideal destination for those seeking a place to relax and unwind before exploring further afield.

Walks

We are lucky to have the South West Coast Path right on our door step, which makes a haven for any keen walkers.  You can walk towards Bigbury-on-Sea and Burgh Island.  Explore Hope Cove where you will find two lovely beaches, Inner Hope and Outer Hope and a few restaurants and shop. Bolberry Down where this beautiful photo was taken looking back towards Thurlestone is a stunning area to explore.  

Watersports in Thurlestone

The sheltered bay of South Milton Sands / Thurlestone Beach is perfect for kayaking and paddleboarding.  At low tide there is a safe very calm, flat-water ‘lagoon’ area perfect for these watersports.

There is the possibilty to rent kayaks and paddleboards on Thurlestone Beach.

Exposed on a low tide at Thurlestone Sands, the rockpools teem with marine life, perfect for beach explorers of every age!  You will find crab, shrimp, anemones and starfish if you are lucky.

Eating out

There is lots of choice when it comes to eating out around Thurlestone.  There is the Beach House in Thurlestone Sands, a laidback foodie destination serving simple seafood and takeaway cafe just yards from the sand.  Within the Thurlestone Hotel there is The Terrace Bar offering a delicious lunch menu, The Village Inn one of Devon’s classic traditional pubs and fine dining at The Trevilder, South Devons Best Restaurant.  A little further afield there are a number of eateries in Hope Cove.  During the Summer of 2024 there was Rockbox on the beach at Thurlestone a new beach bar perfect for those long summer evenings.

Family days out

Woodlands Leisure Park is the largest theme park in Devon, a perfect family day out for all, while Dartmoor Zoological park and Pennywell Farm will appeal to animal lovers.

Thurlestone Golf Club

Running along a stretch of stunning coastline, Thurlestone is a fantastic location to play golf.  The cliff-top terrain provides breath-taking views of the legendary Thurlestone Rock to the East and the beautiful Avon Estuary and Burgh Island to the West.

The village of Thurlestone, which is just a short drive or slightly longer walk away from the apartment, is a quaint village where you can experience the quiet, carefree Devon lifestyle and explore the church, village shop and Thurlestone Inn.
